If you are anything like me you’re always looking for ways to improve your quality of life. Ways to de-stress, live healthier, find balance, and all that jazz.
During a conversation with my best friend, we talked about the current state of affairs. How everything seems to be so negative right now i.e. news, job market, family members, you get the gist.
So, we came up with 3 quick steps to rid you, me and yo’ mama of negativity. 🙂
Here we go:
1. Evaluate your surroundings to identify your triggers
Find out what is causing you to go into a negative state. These causes are your triggers. Triggers can be people, places, or things; even your own mindset.
2. Do your best to eliminate* or avoid your triggers
For example, if you are trying to stop smoking, don’t buy cigarettes, don’t go to places where there is heavy smoking, and don’t be around people who smoke.
*Sidebar: I want to make it clear, elimination of a trigger DOES NOT mean to hurt anyone, especially physically. Alright back to the post.
And finally a little something we call:
3. Replacement theory
For instance, most smokers would tell you after eating they want “a smoke.” Therefore in order to disassociate this habit, the smoker would have to replace smoking after a meal with chewing gum.
Find and surround yourself with people who are encouraging, positive, supportive and driven in their own lives. Connect with a higher power or spirituality to help hone your inner growth.
Negativity surrounds everyone at some point in time. Just because you are going through something does not mean you should give up on your dreams. It may mean you are transitioning or growing. Be patient and persistence. This too shall pass.
Now I want to hear from you. What seems to be irking you at this present time? What do you plan to do about it? Tell me all about it in the comments below.
Amanda
Thanks to my bestie for the smoking example since she has kicked the habit.
