I just finished Dr. Brené Brown’s “The Gifts of Imperfection.”
This book is a guide to wholehearted living. Inside is great advice on how to let go of who you think you’re suppose to be and embracing who you really are.
I originally started reading this book late last year, October 2013 to be exact, during an eCourse I participated in from Oprah.com. During the 6 week class, Brené guided us through 5 out of 10 guideposts outlined in the book by showing creative artwork activities and soul-tapping exercises. One of those exercises is shown to the left. Taking a photo to show to confess and own: “I’m Imperfect & I’m Enough.”
At the time I was struggling with implementing the “letting go of who I though I was suppose to be.” Around the fourth week, I starting numbing myself and rejecting some of the new counter-culture concepts I was learning.
Good thing I’m not a quitter. So, I committed myself to reading the entire book and started all over again from the beginning. Boy, I’m glad I did. *Happy Dance* on finishing.
I understand now I should have expected my own resistance to change – which I wrote about on another blog post called: Fighting the Resistance within You.
All in all, I thought this book was insightful, thought provoking, and full of compassion. I have learned and will be implementing more self-compassion in order to truly be compassionate to others. I simply loved it. I hope you will like it too.
Amanda
