When I first started out in my journey for acting, I had no idea where to start.
I learned by trial and error. I wanted to help you by offering some tips and reoccurring concepts I have picked up along the way.
Step 1: Identify your passion
Passion leads you to your Purpose. What makes you move and/or act? Is there something you LOVE to do?
Step 2: Make a Plan
Map out your Goals. Take the time to plan out what you want to do. Make a rough sketch guide that will help lead you to your ultimate goal (mission/purpose). Try to break each goal down into the smallest tasks possible.
Step 3: Find an Accountability Partner
Find someone you trust, with whom you are not competing with; most importantly someone who will tell you the truth regardless of circumstance.
Step 4: Persist and Be patient
Don’t give up. Although you may feel like quitting many times; Just keep pushing toward your goal and to what you want to accomplish. No matter how hard it gets you must continue to persist. That’s why doing something you LOVE makes this part a little easier. Usually accomplishing your dream doesn’t happen overnight. In this case, Patience is waiting while doing. Do the work wait and on the results.
Step 5. Celebrate your small victories
If you complete a task, treat yourself with something you like to do. For me, I love chocolate, so sometimes when I finish a task I eat a little bit of my favorite chocolate bar. Don’t go overboard, everything in moderation. 🙂
Step 6: Be yourself
Stay true to who you are. Sometimes it’s hard to show other people outside your core group who you really are. I struggle with this a lot because I want people to like me. I still find even though I’m “nice” some people don’t like me because I’m also “feisty.” I have come to realize that not all people will like me and that’s okay.
If you suppress who you really are, you are not going to get what you really want.
Now that I’m writing this out, I also realize this is the single most important part to getting to your dream: Be Yourself.
There is a scripture (because I am a God-fearing woman, I do read the Bible. I do not mean to offend anyone) that says know who you are [in the Lord].
God made you, discovering who God created you to be is a part of the work you will need to do in order find and fulfill your dream.
This discovery will help you determine how you can navigate and accomplish your dream. (a) Knowing yourself and (b) loving yourself is a huge step in reaching your goal.
Sidebar: Be open to change your plans to accommodate new information, new strategies, and even new revelations about your dream. That is all.
